I hope.

The management for other teams seem to understand the idea that sometimes you just have to kick a player to the curb, pay him his money and move on without him on your team. With the Cubs, they keep thinking they have to get some kind of return on that money, never realizing that they are digging themselves a deeper hole.

This entire season is about treading water. The Cubs don't want to go young and develop a team that can win in a couple seasons. They want to appear competitive so they can sell tickets. And maybe if they get enough breaks, they can be the NL Central's version of the 2010 Chicago Bears. But that doesn't strike me as a realistic expectation. And a lot of people seem to agree with me as ticket sales are poor compared to recent seasons.

If Cashner does go down, Hendry and company will make the excuse that he needs to be stretched out more or that he needs another pitch or that he needs work on his command. The last one might be the best option as he is still walking too many hitters.FrankSnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-250683060520895629.post-81367250663530165012011-03-22T19:02:29.005-05:002011-03-22T19:02:29.005-05:00It's a tough decision when you know its going ...It's a tough decision when you know its going to be awhile before the opportunity comes up again. First, Starlin Castro is not like any of the others. He has significantly more potential and has the potential to become a superstar. It's kind of a slap in the face to compare him with the other guys. Then it's a slap in the face to the other 3 who are compared to Casey Coleman. I actually think Coleman could become a useful pitcher, but that's probably his ceiling (useful!). Colvin has the potential to reach an all-star game or two though I think it's unlikely. Cashner has the potential to be a number 1 or number 2 starter though that's probably not real likely either.mb21http://www.anothercubsblog.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-250683060520895629.post-33275964871619646322011-03-21T21:20:13.859-05:002011-03-21T21:20:13.859-05:00Maybe if Castro uses the Sosa cream, he'd be m...Maybe if Castro uses the Sosa cream, he'd be more like the others.Kinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05559888772981380767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-250683060520895629.post-33321533718358758842011-03-21T19:50:45.350-05:002011-03-21T19:50:45.350-05:00That's true. He and his family are great folks. I heard stories of his amazing hitting and fielding at Villanova and anxiously awaited his arrival on the big stage. The grand slam was a great moment that I hoped would carry him to stardom. It didn't work out, but it was a heck of a great ride.
